Books for children who won't stop asking
We make picture books about the science hiding inside ordinary life — and we try very hard not to lie while doing it.
Why we exist
Somewhere around four, children start asking questions that are genuinely enormous. Why is the sky like that. Where does rain come from. What makes my heart go. What happens to my tears.
Most of us answer with a version of because it does. Not because we don't care, but because the real answer involves stars, or the water cycle, or hemoglobin, and it's bedtime.
The honest answers are better than the brush-offs. They're also more beautiful. Children can hold far more than we usually hand them.
ColorVerse exists to give grown-ups the real answer in a form a five-year-old can carry — and to give the grown-up enough footing to keep the conversation going after the book closes.
We're a small independent press. That means we move slowly, we answer our own email, and every book gets more attention than a schedule would allow.
How we handle the science
These are the rules we hold ourselves to. If we ever break one, we'd like you to tell us.
We say which part is the story
Our characters have faces and feelings. Fe the iron atom does not actually have a face. We tell children that, inside the book, in plain words — so they learn to separate the storytelling from the mechanism rather than quietly absorbing a misconception they'll have to unlearn at fourteen.
We simplify, we don't falsify
A picture book has to leave things out. It doesn't have to say things that aren't true. When we compress something, we try to compress it in a direction a child can later expand, not one they'll have to reverse.
We guard the common misconception
Every topic has one predictable wrong turn. In The Star Inside My Blood it's assuming our own Sun made the iron in our blood — it didn't, and it can't. We build the book specifically to prevent that, rather than leaving it to chance.
We stay out of medicine
Our books touch on blood, food and the body. They are educational, never medical, dietary or diagnostic. We say so clearly and we send you to a professional for anything that matters to a real child's health.

How our books are made
People ask, so here's a straight answer.
Words
Every story, activity and guide is written by Glenis Graham. The structure, the science, the refrains and the decisions about what to include are all human choices, revised over many drafts.
Pictures
Our illustrations are created using AI image tools, then selected, corrected, arranged and art-directed by hand. We use them because they let a one-person press make a full-colour picture book at all — a traditionally illustrated title costs many thousands of dollars before a single copy sells.
We know some readers feel strongly about this, in both directions. We'd rather tell you plainly than have you find out.
Science
Every book is checked against current mainstream science, and we name the places where we've simplified. If you spot something wrong, please tell us — we will correct it in the next printing and we'll thank you for it.
The imprints
ColorVerse is our children's imprint — picture books, activity packs and learning resources for readers roughly four to eight.
Echelon Nexus Press is the publishing house behind it, covering fiction, nonfiction, educational and children's titles.

We're genuinely small. If you write to us, a person reads it — usually the person whose name is on the cover.

A tiny iron atom named Fe takes Luna on an astonishing journey through her blood, her food, the Earth, and the stars.
